Sierra Club Supports Our Nation's Youngest Heroes
The Sierra Club announced a sponsorship of over $1 million of the National Military Family Association's Operation Purple Summer Camps. This year, an additional 1,000 children of deployed military members will attend Operation Purple Summer Camps free of charge thanks to the donation by the Sierra Club. The donation, announced Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope on April 26, 2007, brings together two unlikely organizations, united in their mission to connect children with the outdoors and leave no child inside.

The BBTO Team Goes to Camp!

Martin LeBlanc thanks NMFA staff, camp counselors, campers and their families at the Camp Pendleton Family Day, the culmination of a camp for children of wounded soldiers held in Southern California.

Campers reunite with their families after a week at camp filled with outdoor activities, highlighted by a giant mud pit. Attendees also learned important coping skills and had the chance to relate to peers experiencing similar situations.

Girls, ages 11-12, navigate an obstacle course in the woods of Lost Lake Camp as part of a "military-themed" day outdoors. Campers from Operation Purple Camp, Fairbanks, AK, stop and take in a scenic view in the midst of a night hike in the land of the midnight sun.

At the Operation Purple Camp in Washington State campers practiced archery and tested their balance on the high ropes course.
