Successful program gains momentum
The Water Sentinels project in Northern Kentucky has achieved the
following impressive accomplishments:
- Northern Kentucky Water Sentinels achieved a significant milestone
in their battle to stop pollution from airport deicing fluid in
Gunpowder and Elijah Creeks. On Monday February 7, 2005, the Kentucky
Division of Water (KDOW) issued a discharge permit that placed
much more stringent requirements for control and monitoring of
the discharge of deicing fluids on the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky
Airport (Airport). Read more

- Northern Kentucky Water Sentinels and a coalition of environmental
and sporting groups prevailed upon Governor Ernie Fletcher to
appoint a "Pipeline Safety Advisory Committee" following
a major oil spill on the Kentucky River. As a result of their
efforts, on March 18, 2005, less than two months following the
oil spill, Governor Fletcher appointed the Advisory Committee.
Kentucky is only the second state to appoint such a committee.
