Celebrating 125 Years of Protecting the Planet.

Monday, September 25th, 2017, the Houston Sierra Club raised a glass in celebration of the world’s oldest club dedicated to protecting the planet.

The Houston Sierra Club invited Mike Lange, Senior Project Manager for the Trust for Public Land, to speak to attendees about the need to save coastal lands from development. The Trust for Public Land acquires spaces for the greater public good to protect wildlife and places “where people can experience nature close at hand”.

The timing of Mike’s presentation could not be more appropriate since we are witnessing, and hopefully, realizing that climate change related-events affect all of us---yes, even us Houstonians.  It seems undeniable we are entering a new, harsher climate era that demands we prioritize our work with nature and no longer against it.  The planet is warmer, the atmosphere is moister, and our storms are statistically more violent. We must minimize the threat of extreme weather events by securing more coastal lands and property inland to minimize property loss and loss of life and to protect our natural resources including our wildlife.

The annual fundraiser was a grand success due to the support of many caring individuals.

Thank you.
