The Sierra Club’s original mission was to establish and protect public lands in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Throughout the Club’s 125 year history protecting our most cherished landscapes and ecosystems has been a principal cause, and the importance of protecting public lands for future generations will continue to be a core theme.
On this anniversary, our featured guest will be Mike Lange, who has made a career of identifying, acquiring and protecting public land in our region. Mike will speak about conservation opportunities for the Texas Mid-Coast area.
Mike Lange is a Senior Project Manager for the Trust for Public Land. His primary responsibility is land conservation on the Texas Gulf Coast, working in partnership with City, County, State, and Federal agencies, as well as private companies, foundations and landowners to put together partnerships which conserve land. Mike has a long career in conservation and wildlife management in Texas beginning in 1983. Most of his career he served as Senior Wildlife Biologist for the Texas Mid-Coast National Wildlife Refuge, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Mike was instrumental in establishing a program to conserve land in the Columbia Bottomlands Ecosystem on the Texas Coast. Through his efforts and the partnerships he helped build, over 45,000 acres have been protected. Mike has been with the Trust for Public Land since June 1, 2015.
