Each December the Houston Group holds an election to fill positions on the Group’s nine member Executive Committee (Excom). The Houston Sierra Club is now soliciting nominations for the election that will be held this December 2016.  Members of the Group’s Executive Committee serve terms of 2 years. Typically either 4 or 5 positions on the Excom are up for election in any given year, depending on the number of vacancies.

A nominating committee works to recruit candidates each year, and any member of the club may make candidate suggestions to the nominating committee. Members who are interested in running may also submit petitions to the nominating committee, should the nominating committee decline to select a proposed candidate.

Until a Nominating Committee Chair has been established, you can submit suggestions for candidates and petitions to Frank Blake at frankblake@juno.com or 713-528-2896. Petitions for candidacy must be received by November 1, 2016 in order to add any names to our ballot materials.

The election itself will be held in December.  Candidate and ballot information will be posted to the Houston Group’s website, and members will print out, mark and mail in their completed ballot. An announcement and details for the election will be included in the December Bayou Banner (e-newsletter), and a postcard with the same election information will be mailed out to members for whom we do not have email addresses.
