It’s almost that special time of year when you let your dears know how much they mean to you. Why not express a little love for the natural world while you’re at it? We scouted out items intended to help reignite that passion for the earth, and for adventure. From the traditional to the surprising, and from sweet little presents to big splurgey tokens of love, here are Sierra’s 25 suggestions for helping you and yours feel the love in 2019.

Help the nature lovers in your life keep time with the gift of an engraved watch named after—and sourced from—locations known for superior natural beauty. Wood in Philosophy timepieces ($109 to $155) are crafted in Vancouver and boast Swiss movements, sapphire crystal glass, and bands made from exotic, sustainable hardwoods. They also come packaged in pretty wooden boxes and can be personalized with custom text or image engravings—meaning you can easily upgrade this present to include renderings of your Valentine’s favorite flora or fauna, or nature quotes.

For a classic V Day gift for her, look no further than perfume. Well, OK, look a little further, to the organic, biodegradable, cruelty-free, and certified nontoxic kind. The purchase of any product from Cūrata Sustainable Luxury, a 1% For the Planet brand, benefits Plastic Oceans. We recommend the popular, small-batch Dulceo perfume ($215), which carries notes of sweet orange, Moroccan neroli, guava, palmarosa heart, tuberose, frangipani, Indian jasmine, vanilla, caramel, and cocoa, with a nice violet leaf base.

Speaking of nontoxic and sustainable body care, consider the Carbondale, Colorado–based Osmia, which carries quality soaps, oils, lotions, and more, and also plants a tree for each and every online purchase. For V Day, we recommend the Body Duo Gift Set ($35), which includes a Himalayan body buff to scrub away rough skin, and rosemary body mousse, which will leave your Valentine’s skin nourished, velvety-soft, and smelling like a sprig of rosemary clipped fresh from the garden.

Asking an outdoorsman to haul a glass bottle around is probably a cologne catastrophe waiting to happen. Luckily, Duluth Trading Company has devised a solid alternative—Spit & Polish Young Buck Solid Cologne ($25) is a light, silky balm that comes in a handy, totable puck. With just a dab, your Valentine will be smelling like a spicy, exotic piece of sandalwood wrapped in beguiling clover.

Is your main squeeze a salty sea dog? Or a wine lover? Check out gifts from Sea Bags, a Maine-based operation that keeps old sail cloths out of landfills by reincarnating them in the forms of totes and accessories. We recommend the neatly nautical Valentine XO Wine Bag ($40), a sturdy gift that comes with a white rope handle and conveys a message of love and stability.

Perhaps your beloved prefers spirits. Drink to the health of each other and the planet with United by Blue's Adventure Copper Shot Glass Set. Stamped with phrases worth toasting to—including "Made for the Mountains," "Roam Free," "Adventure Awaits," and "Keep Paddling"—this traveling set of four is constructed with quality copper and hot-tinned on the inside for corrosion resistance. Plus, every purchase removes one pound of trash from US waterways.

Lab-grown diamonds are just what they sound like—diamonds manufactured in a lab rather than mined from the earth—and they’re an increasingly buzzy fashion accessory. Help disrupt the blood-stained diamond industry with the purchase of a sparkly piece ($1,000+) from ALTR Diamonds. Your eco-savvy main squeeze will doubly love the fact that this company’s labs are powered by wind turbines.

While flowers may be the quintessential romantic gesture, no environmentalist likes to trash them a few days after Valentine’s Day. Which is why Kristan Wornson, the field biologist turned jewelry designer behind Skipping Lilies, started collecting and preserving flowers, seaweed, and other natural elements to create singular, stunning necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and more ($60 to $225). Truly impress your beloved with the gift of her or his favorite flower—immortalized.

Wanna know what also lasts longer and has a much tinier footprint than cut flowers? Pretty houseplants! Wild Interiors grows, packages, and ships a wide range of indoor plant gifts ($20 to $50)—from classic succulents to vibrant Tradescantia zebrina—with sustainability in mind. Their greenhouses utilize recycled rainwater from retention ponds, facilities are heated by recycled wood boilers, and plants come in pots made of terra-cotta clay and simple ceramics. What’s more, grower pots are made from recyclable plastic, and all shipping materials are recyclable.

It's hard to go wrong with the gift of a cozy pair of house shoes. Stegmann’s Original 108 Wool Clogs ($125) have been steadily perfected since their 1888 debut. What’s more, Stegmann partners with farmers to purchase fine merino wool from rare and endangered species to help ensure their continued existence. The result is a seamless, nonrubbing, toasty shoe that your better half won't want to take off.

For the frequently traveling, environmentally conscious Valentine, Eagle Creek has unveiled the Migrate Duffel ($79 to $159, depending on liter space). It comes in a fun range of colors and patterns and boasts a water-resistant coating made from windshields that ended up in landfills. Adding to the durability factor, this bag boasts one continuous webbing strap, tuck-away backpack straps, and exterior compression straps to keep the most unruly gear constrained. And once the adventure is over, the Migrate collapses flat for storage.

Made from biodegradable cashmere yam spun in Italy and woven in Scotland, Frances Austen’s Reversible V Blush Mauve heritage sweaters ($395) can be worn with the V in the front or the back—so it’s really like two classy sweater gifts. They’re made in a variety of colors and use only high-quality and sustainable textiles.

Your Valentine will love you even more if you ensure all gifts of clothing are made from ecofriendly fabrics at Fair Trade–certified factories. So check out the stylings of Aventura, which makes sustainable clothing for women, and its brother brand for men, Ecoths. Speaking of which, all outdoorsy XYs look good in the western-style Laramie Top ($49), which is made from 100 percent organic cotton and boasts a fetching plaid pattern and a glasses holder.

Arvin Goods makes basics (think socks, PJs, and underwear) from 100 percent upcycled, reclaimed, and donated materials; uses minimal water; and eschews toxic dyes. The company’s brand-new boxers ($24) are billed as “the cleanest underwear you can buy”—they’re made from abandoned fishing nets and old carpets!

Got a hot date with a book this Valentine’s Day? Or even better, with a bookworm? Whether you’re gifting yourself or the reader in your life with a fabulous new book, we advise you to enhance it with the bonus gift of a pretty bookmark made from recycled paper. Check out the unique selection from Emahls ($5 to $6).

During these cold, blustery months, toting around a stainless-steel water bottle can be chilly. Provide a little insulation for your single-use-plastic-wary beloved’s fragile hands with the gift of Zoetica’s Z Cork Canteen ($39), which comes with an insulating—and fetching—patterned sleeve made from reusable cork. This lightweight, 20-ounce bottle does double duty as a thermos and boasts a secure bamboo cap.

Shaving accoutrements might sound like a boring gift, but bear with us: Speed Shave was made specifically for eco-conscious outdoorsmen and -women who find themselves needing to shave in places where water is scarce. Body Verde’s no-rinse shaving lotions (about $12) are biodegradable and naturally derived, with no preservatives, parabens, or artificial colors. Your partner will be singing the praises of your thoughtfulness next time they find themselves growing furry in the backcountry.

Does your beloved love to go backpacking? Then perhaps they deserve to sit their weary selves upon a throne—REI’s brand-new Flexlite Air Chair ($100) folds down easily and ways but a single pound!

Perhaps your Valentine feels more at home in a yoga studio. 42 Birds is a line of beautifully designed yoga products—mat ($100), blocks ($22), and massage balls ($50)—made from natural cork. Not only is the harvesting of cork a boon to biodiversity and the endangered Iberian lynx (that’s right; the more you use cork, the more you help protect it), but it makes for a grippy, antimicrobial, and odor-resistant yoga accessory.

Give the gift of always-refreshing food and drink in the backcountry and on the water. Brand-new from Otterbox, the Trooper 12 ($200) is a lightweight, soft 12-quart cooler that keeps ice up to three days. Plus, it’s leakproof!

The paddle-makers behind Gearlab have teamed up with the ocean-savers of Sea Shepherd to create a limited-edition collection of painted paddles ($348) embossed with the Sea Shepherd’s logo and conservation message. Your water-loving sweetie will be even more grateful for this gift once she or he learns that 100 percent of profits will be donated to Sea Shepherd’s noble efforts to end the destruction of open-water habitat and the slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans.

Another way to cut down on detritus in our oceans and waterways? Floating sunglasses, of course. Rheos Floatable Shades ($50) come in a wide range of good-looking styles and color schemes, and are specifically designed for days on the water, with 100 percent UV protection and premium polarization. Give your sweetie another reason to look forward to spring, while doing your part to put a dent in the sinking sunglasses epidemic.

Is your better half always cold this time of year? Billed as the world’s warmest thermal socks, Heat Holders ($10 to $20) are created with special moisture-breathing thermal yarn. They’re thick, soft, squishy, and cozy as can be, and allegedly three times toastier than ordinary thermal socks. 'Tis the season!

Sometimes the best Valentines have four paws. Reward Fido for the love he shows you every day of the year with a treat that promotes long-term stewardship of the earth. Jiminy’s cricket protein dog treats (about $13/bag) require few resources to produce and are packed with wholesome ingredients like blueberries, lentils, oats, and of course, crickets, a.k.a. “the protein of the future.” All the canines we know seem to love the nutty taste of this low-emission snack.

Facts: greenies like experiential presents, and adventurous foodies like to dine at the source of their dinner’s harvesting. Good news! Outstanding in the Field—the roaming, wall-less restaurant known for alfresco meals at organic farms, orchards, ranches, and beaches across North America (and even in France!)—offers gift certificates. Lucky recipients can reserve seats at the communal, multicourse, table-to-farm meal and celebration of the farmer who made it possible of their choice (there are 100+ options, and tickets typically cost $200 to $300 per person) when 2019 OITF tickets go on sale on March 20. Give your better half even more reason to look forward to spring!
