Even your most carnivorous family members will love these delicious meat- and dairy-free dishes.

Do you really want to eat another turkey that's so dry you've got to drown it in gravy just to get it down? We don't either, so we went searching for the best vegan recipes out there. This year, we'll be giving our pre-dinner thanks to these three cookbooks:

Thug Kitchen

Thug Kitchen

Thug Kitchen: Eat Like You give a F*ck will teach you to cook with attitude. Thug Kitchen’s mission: to help you make food that’s good for you and your mama, and to do it as irreverently as possible. Importantly, it will provide you with the know-how to drop the culinary mic at all those holiday potlucks. With recipes like Warm the f*ck up Minestrone soup, Sweet Corn and Green Chile Baked Flautas, and Mixed Veggie and Tofu Chilaquiles that will “set your ass straight” after a night on the town, Thug Kitchen’s got your back. The book, self-described as “some plant based recipes with a f*ckton of swearing and a dash of health advice for good measure” will have you chortling into your chickpeas as you prepare dishes that will win you mad culinary game. You’ll savor its tidbits of sage wisdom like “Start Every Dam Day like it’s Taco Tuesday,” while you whip out saliva-inducing dishes and swear over your wok. What’s more, you’ll look fly doing it thanks to all of the health benefits of eating like you give a f*ck.

Crossroads

Crossroads

If talking dirty in the kitchen is not your thing, no worries— we’ve rounded up our favorite p.c. vegan cookbooks too, starting with Tal Ronnen’s Crossroads, full of recipes from his L.A.-based Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. As he explains, plant-based dishes let the veggies shine in their own right. For an alternative to traditional mashed sweet potatoes, try the Sweet Potato Latkes with Spiked Applesauce, or stray even farther off the beaten path and make Kale Spanikopita with Harissa Sauce and Mint Oil. These hearty, healthy, and full-bodied recipes won’t leave you or your guests wanting. The inventive recipes you’ll find between the covers span the gamut—from snacks, soups, pasta, salads, to desserts and imaginative cocktails like Hard Times—a mix of bourbon, lemon, maple syrup, and Moroccan spices just right for chilly  nights.
