Endorsed by the Sierra Club, Jeanne Shaheen boasts an impressive record of achievements in sectors such as the environment and energy policies. She is committed to ending our reliance on foreign oil through energy efficient technologies and clean energy. Shaheen views clean energy as crucial to our national security and economy, and supports ending tax breaks for oil companies.
As governor of New Hampshire, she established a State Building Energy Conservation Initiative that lowered the state's energy costs by renovating existing facilities and also reduced carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 37 million pounds a year. Since June 2002, Shaheen's administration has initiated energy efficiency programs that have saved New Hampshire families and businesses almost $400 million and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by millions of tons. According to her webpage, Shaheen also enacted "the nation's first law to reduce emissions of the four pollutants that cause global warming" and supports numerous open space measures.
