Himes said he will promote green-building practices and green collar jobs, and that he wants to extend tax credits that promote wind and solar energy, and will propose large increases in funding for alternative energy research. He also supports a raise in fuel-efficiency standards for passenger cars and light trucks and the adoption of a cap-and-trade system, modeling the experience combating the pollutants that cause acid rain.

Himes also says he will support a reversal of the Bush administrations efforts to undermine the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts and legislation that requires polluters to bear the costs of cleaning up toxic pollution.
