AL-02 Bobby Bright Sr. (D)
From Bright's campaign website:
"The rising price of fuel is straining our economy and our dependence on foreign oil has become a threat to our national security. We must develop a comprehensive plan that will allow us to gain our energy independence. First, we must immediately begin drilling for oil offshore and in ANWR (Arctic National Wildlife Reserve). Though I believe that domestic drilling will reduce our current fuel prices, this is only a short-term solution.
"Investing in alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, hydro and synthetic fuels-in addition to increasing our use of nuclear power-will allow us to find a long-term solution to the current energy crisis.
"In Montgomery, I partnered with the Agriculture Commissioner to develop a biodiesel program that converts leftover cooking grease into fuel that now powers industrial equipment at our city landfills."
AL-05 Parker Griffith (D)
According to the climate issues candidate questionnaire posted on Scientists & Engineers for America (SEA): Griffith supports long-term emission reduction targets, funding relevant research to advance low greenhouse emitting technologies, and cap and trade after its issues are resolved.
He will also support a "comprehensive energy strategy that will have a positive economic impact, aligned with climate change and climate security strategies and will increase national security position with regard to reducing our dependence on foreign oil." Griffith also supports investment for alternative fuels and expanding renewable energy sources including nuclear power.
