Environmental Foe Nominated

The battle over President Bush’s judicial choices moved into the environmental arena in February with the nomination of William G. Myers III, a longtime lobbyist for mining interests and a leading critic of environmentalists, to a seat on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) asserted that the nominee was unsuitable because "he has dedicated most of his career to advocating for interests that opposed laws protecting the environment." Myers is on record as saying that environmental regulations are akin to King George’s tyranny over the American colonies.

Delay Tactics

Late last year the BLM released proposed changes to grazing regulations which will ultimately hurt the long-term sustainability of America’s western landscapes. One of the most damaging changes would drastically increase the length of time the BLM has to correct grazing management problems. Prius Named Car of the Year

Motor Trend magazine recently announced its selection of the Toyota Prius as the 2004 Car of the Year. Now in its 55th year, the title of Motor Trend Car of the Year is the most coveted award in the auto industry. "We believe the performance, engineering advancements, and overall significance of the Toyota Prius merits [this] distinction," said Motor Trend’s Editor-in-Chief Kevin Smith. "It provides a promising look at a future where extreme fuel-efficiency, ultra-low emissions, and exceptional performance will happily coexist." Are you listening, Detroit?
