Summary
Ohio's recently passed oil and gas reform bill, SB 165, is far from perfect, but it's a good start -- it sets out plans to increase setbacks for wells in urban areas, requires some disclosure of fracking fluids, updates permitting fees, and includes noise pollution and land use protections. Implementing the bill, and updating Ohio's standards generally, will require a regulatory overhaul, which the state is commencing. In December 2011, the Division released the revisions drafted pursant to SB 165. Comments are due on December 23, 2011.
Updates

In January 2011, Ohio's Department of Natural Resources issued its final state review on hydraulic fracturing (see link below).

Ohio DNR assembled a regulatory revision working group, including NEOGAP, a Sierra Club ally, in September 2010.

On July 1, 2010, SB 165 became operational.
