Adventure and challenge, solitude and reflection, the Wilderness has always symbolized a new beginning- a place for discovery and fulfilling adventure. The Outward Bound program for Veterans provides an opportunity for camaraderie, and has proven to be a powerful tool in helping Vets re-adjust back to civilian life.

"Outward Bound is grateful to the Military Families Outdoors Program Project for its support serving America's veterans through our proven outdoor wilderness adventure courses," said John Read, Outward Bound's President and Chief Executive Officer. "This grant allows Outward Bound to extend its rich history serving veterans, an important and often overlooked population that is a natural fit for our programs."

Outward Bound Veterans Expeditions program is fully funded for service members from the Gulf, Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraqi wars. The program will provide veterans and active duty service members with an opportunity to participate in adventure courses that are both physically and mentally challenging. The experience is both fun and rewarding — emphasis is placed on taking responsibility for one's own life, sticking with difficult tasks through completion, rediscovering a sense of pride in accomplishment, and enjoying the camaraderie of a shared challenging experience.
