If you are interested in participating in the John Muir Youth Award program, either as a class or youth group, please copy and paste the form below into your e-mail program or word processor, fill in the requested information, and e-mail it or print it out or send to the address below.

This form must be filled out by a responsible adult who will be supervising the youths' projects. For individuals age 13 and older, you may alternatively use the Self-Guided Assessment Form.

This Proposal Form is an aid to your planning and delivery of a John Muir Youth Award, at the Discovery, Explorer or Conserver level. It enables the John Muir Education Committee to offer support and advice, and to make sure that your Proposal will lead to successful completion of an Award. Please forward a copy of this Interest form Proposal to us at least 2 weeks before the start of your activity.

Youth can undertake the Award on three levels. You should begin with the Discovery Level. Retrospective activity cannot count towards an Award.

1. Discovery Award
Requires a minimum 15 hours effort over 3 months or a 4 day Residential Project

2. Explorer Award
Requires a minimum of 30 hours effort over 6 months or an 8 day Residential Project

3. Conserver Award
Requires a minimum of 60 hours effort over 12 months or 12 days of Residential Project work

The John Muir Award is NOT a competition. If students complete the project according to the five criteria, your students will receive a certificate for their achievements. The certificate will be signed by both the Coordinator of the Sierra Club John Muir Education Committee and by you as the youth leader.

Please note the full Award criteria and be sure your project will satisfy all five Challenges before submitting this form.
