"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." -- Margaret Mead
Simply put, the crisis of global warming cannot be adequately addressed by the U.S. acting alone. No solution to climate change will be credible or effective without contributions from India and China, emerging economic powers requiring enormous energy resources.
While the Sierra Club will continue to strongly advocate for further U.S. emissions reductions and for global agreements to address climate equity, increased international funding for both mitigation and adaptation, the Sierra Club also aims to provide a platform for pursuing, promoting and partnering for a greener and cleaner planet.
The goal of our "Green Energy & Green Livelihoods" program in India is to support and encourage renewable energy initiatives and to expand NGO and business networks needed to stimulate a new environmental economy and create sustainable livelihoods for India's citizens. And this is not a one way process. As much as we are interested in sharing resources and supporting environmental leadership in India we are also there to listen and learn. Much of the extraordinary energy, environment and green development work now occurring in India have exciting applications in the U.S.
