How Green Is My Pirate Ship?: The Answers

Check out our other "How Green Is My..." quizzes on everything from laundry to computers.

  1. What type of boat do ye embark upon, sailor?

Mate, listen, true pirates are powered by the wind -- and those of the golden-age mostly sailed boats called sloops. Wind powered "Ships" (those of the line or not) technically have three masts, and few golden-age pirates had such big ships. If ye have one of those, ye might be a much better pirate than the rest of us (so extra points if you chose that answer)!

  2. Where did ye get such a lovely boat, anyway?

Green pirates, aye, they look to recycling to get their boats.

  3. When considering where to bury treasure, ye...

Leave-no-trace is of course the best. No self-respecting pirate would use a safe deposit box, but we don't recommend burying yer treasure along the beach where ye might disturb some lovely sea turtles or waterfowl habitat. Choose yer site carefully. After the treasure is done and buried, make it like you were never there but draw a good map!

  4. Cap'n, what be yer peg-leg made of?

The true green pirate prefers a refurbished wood but that the sea has shaped.

  5. Mate, whereabouts did ye earn yer eye patch?

Sadly, there are people who fish beyond the regulations, not caring whether or not their catch is sustainable because it pays too well. However, there are some fine patches available at the Pirate Store. If you really did get lose yer eye as a kid, then the devil love ye, but best to have kept it simple and purchased it yerself.

  6. Why did ye make that last sailor walk the plank?

Listen mate, there's already enough trash floating about in the sea. Go read about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and all the plastic that is contained there.

  7. Where did ye get yer parrot?

Exotic birds belong in the jungle -- not on your shoulder. (Unless they're powered by renewable batteries.)
