Last Saturday night the DuPont DeLisle chemical plant was burning its trash, even though there was a burn ban on. Someone said they had a permit. But it was bad. The smoke was bad and the smell was worse. It traveled all the way up the Kiln DeLisle Road to my house. Another resident here who lost his DeLisle home to the Katrina flood surge said it wasn't the first time they've been burning stuff. There was a reddish brown smoke and foul odor when he went through a couple of weeks ago. Myra Marsh is a Sierra Club activist who lives near the DuPont DeLisle plant. She also worked at the plant in the early years, became unable to walk across the plant floor because of the toxics she was exposed to, was laughed at when she stumbled a lot, and then fired when she couldn’t work.
