Washington, DC — Según informes de prensa, la administración Trump planea hacer más difícil que los inmigrantes que han seguido el proceso legal migratorio consigan la ciudadanía o una tarjeta verde. La nueva política excluiría del acceso a la ciudadanía a quienes hayan participado en programas sociales como la Ley de Cuidado Asequible de la Salud (ACA) o hayan recibido asistencia de programas como SNAP, incluso si han seguido las directrices legales para lograr la ciudadanía.
Como respuesta, el director ejecutivo del Sierra Club, Michael Brune, emitió la siguiente declaración:
“Está ya claro que las políticas xenófobas de la administración Trump y sus ataques a quienes buscan una mejor vida en este país no se limitan en absoluto a las personas que él y su gabinete han hostigado injustamente. Los mismos responsables de separar a familias y poner en peligro a las comunidades fronterizas amenazan ahora el proceso de décadas por el cual se convierte uno en ciudadano de este país. Y Trump no solo amenaza a personas en base a su estatus migratorio, sino también en base a su nivel de pobreza. Cualquiera que haya participado en programas sociales sensatos como la Ley de Cuidado Asequible de la Salud (ACA) podría ser excluido de la ciudadanía, como parte de un malcarado ataque contra los trabajadores y familias de bajos ingresos.
“El Sierra Club lucha para proteger los ambientes humanos y naturales. Es por ello que nos solidarizamos con todos aquellos que se vean amenazados por la administración Trump y que seguiremos haciendo oír nuestras voces. Proteger a nuestras comunidades y medio ambiente es el mismo concepto, y cualquiera que aprecie unos Estados Unidos justos y libres debería seguir oponiéndose a actos odiosos como este”.

Trump Administration Expected to Exclude Legal Immigrants from Citizenship
Washington, D.C. -- According to media reports, the Trump Administration is pursuing plans to make it more difficult for immigrants who have followed legal immigration processes to obtain citizenship or a green card. The new policy is reported to exclude from access to citizenship those people who have participated in social programs including the Affordable Care Act or received food assistance programs like SNAP, even if they have followed all existing legal guidance toward pursuing citizenship status.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune issued the following statement:
"It should be clear by now that the Trump Administration's xenophobic policies and attacks on those seeking a better life in this country are by no means limited to those people he and his cabinet have already unjustly targeted. The same people responsible for tearing families apart and endangering borderlands communities are now threatening the longstanding process whereby people become citizens of this country. And Trump is not only targeting people on the basis of their immigrant status, but also on the basis of their poverty. Anyone who ever took part in sensible social programs like the Affordable Care Act could now be excluded from citizenship, in an ugly attack on workers and low-income families.
“The Sierra Club fights to protect the natural and human environment, and that is why we rise together in solidarity with all those threatened by the Trump administration, and why we will continue to make our voices heard. Protecting our communities and our environment go hand-in-hand, and everyone who values a just and free United States should continue to resist hateful actions like this one."
