Washington, DC — Un nuevo artículo del Washington Post reveló hoy que el administrador de la Agencia Federal de Protección Ambiental (EPA), Scott Pruitt, abusó ilegalmente su posición oficial y usó a su personal en la nómina del contribuyente para concertar reuniones con el CEO de Chick-Fil-A, Dan Cathy, y asegurar una de sus franquicias para la esposa de Pruitt.
La maniobra de Pruitt se reveló por primera vez en un email de uno de sus asistentes, Sydney Hupp, en el que expone que el administrador propuso un encuentro con Cathy sobre una potencial “oportunidad comercial”. Según el email, el cual fue desclasificado gracias a un litigio del Sierra Club basado en la Ley de Libertad de Información, “Al Administrador le gustaría discutir una potencial oportunidad comercial con el Sr. Cathy”.
La aparente relación de Pruitt con Cathy —otro email indica que los dos “tuvieron una oportunidad de encontrarse durante su labor en Oklahoma”— es un nuevo intento de Pruitt de violar la ley federal enriqueciéndose por medio de su posición oficial. Pruitt ya confronta varias investigaciones debido a su historial, incluyendo volar en primera clase a costa del contribuyente, sus caras preferencias estilográficas y su corrupto trato con cabilderos para asegurarse un dulce contrato de arrendamiento en Washington, DC.
Como respuesta, el director ejecutivo del Sierra Club, Michael Brune, emitió la siguiente declaración:
“El abuso de la confianza del contribuyente y sus corruptos actos de hacer valer su posición oficial para ganancias personales han llegado a unos niveles peor que vergonzosos. Este es el ejemplo más claro hasta el momento de los intentos ilegales e inmorales de Pruitt de enriquecerse personalmente gracias a la posición que le otorgó Donald Trump. ¿Hasta cuándo va a permitir Trump que Pruitt se enriquezca a costa del contribuyente? Esta parece ser la única administración en la historia que permite que florezca este nivel de corrupción, ya que cualquier presidente con un mínimo sentido de la ética hubiera despedido a Pruitt inmediatamente”.

Sierra Club FOIA Reveals Pruitt’s Staff Sought “Business Opportunity” on Official Time
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, a new Washington Post story reveals that Scott Pruitt illegally abused his official position and had taxpayer-funded staff attempt to secure meetings with Chick-Fil-A CEO Dan Cathy in an attempt to secure a Chick-fil-a franchise for his wife.
The attempt by Pruitt was first revealed in an email from EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s scheduler, Sydney Hupp, exposing how Pruitt sought a discussion with Cathy about potential “business opportunity”. According to the email, which was revealed as a result of successful Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) litigation by the Sierra Club, “The Administrator would like to talk about a potential business opportunity with Mr. Cathy.”
Pruitt’s apparent relationship with Cathy - a separate email indicates the two “had an opportunity to visit during the Administrator's tenure in Oklahoma” - is yet another attempt by Pruitt to violate federal law by enriching himself through his official position. Already, Pruitt has faced investigations due to his record of - among many other things - flying first class on the taxpayer’s tab and coach when he picks up the bill, his pricey pen habit, and his corrupt deal with a lobbyist to secure a sweetheart condo deal in Washington, D.C.
In Response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune Released the Following Statement:
“Scott Pruitt’s abuse of the public trust and his corrupt attempts to leverage his position for personal gain have reached a disgraceful new low. This is the clearest example yet of Pruitt unethically and illegally seeking personal benefits because of the job Donald Trump has entrusted him with. How much longer will Trump allow Pruitt to enrich himself at the taxpayer’s expense? This appears to be the only Administration in history that would allow this level of corruption to thrive, as any President with any sense of ethics or the law would fire Pruitt immediately.”
