El actor nominado a un Oscar Edward James Olmos explica en este video del Sierra Club los peligros de la fracturación hidráulica o fracking para el medio ambiente y la salud pública, incluyendo la de cientos de comunidades hispanas de todo el país.
La animación, creada por Sierra Club Productions y narrada por Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Stand and Deliver, Blade Runner), ilustra los peligros del gas metano como un agente contra el clima, los contenidos tóxicos de los fluidos del fracking, y las amenazas a la salud pública cuando esos fluidos contaminan el agua y el aire de todos.
“Mientras las reservas de combustibles fósiles de agotan, la industria petrolera y gasera usa el fracking, un método de extracción más peligroso y caro que amenaza el clima terrestre”, dice Olmos en el video.

Oscar-nominated actor Edward James Olmos explains in this Sierra Club video-animation the dangers of hydraulic fracturing or fracking poses to our environment and public health, including that of hundreds of Latino communitites across the country.
The animation —titled Fracking 101, created by Sierra Club Productions and featuring narration by Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Stand and Deliver, Blade Runner)— illustrates the dangers of fracking gas as a dangerous climate disruptor, the toxic contents of fracking fluid, and the health hazards faced when those fluids contaminate our water and air supply.
“As global reserves of fossil fuels dwindle, the oil and gas industry has turned to fracking, a more dangerous and expensive extraction method that threatens our climate,” Olmos says in the video.
Many Americans, inclutendo millions of Latinos, are uncertain about what fracking is and the dangers it poses. But national and state-level polls suggest that once Americans understand how fracking fluid affects groundwater (which millions of Americans use for drinking water and crop irrigation), air quality and the unprecedented climate disruption experienced around the country, people are more likely to oppose this dangerous practice.
