Es realidad. Donald Trump se ha convertido en el 45 presidente de Estados Unidos. De ahora en adelante, decenas de millones de hispanos e inmigrantes de todos los orígenes vivirán temerosos de ser deportados, comunidades que han sido parte del mosaico norteamericano incluso siglos antes de la creación de Estados Unidos como país.
En el Sierra Club, la mayor y más antigua organización medioambiental del país, no solo creemos que los hispanos e inmigrantes de todas las razas, orígenes nacionales y vocaciones son parte integrante de nuestro país. Cada día también peleamos para preservar esta tierra para usted, su familia y futuras generaciones.
Esto lo dejé claro en mi declaración tras la Jornada Electoral. Y el 14 de enero, lo dejamos aún más claro cuando decenas de miembros del Sierra Club estuvieron hombro con hombro con inmigrantes, trabajadores, mujeres, musulmanes y otros en manifestaciones de resistencia a los xenofóbicos planes de Donald Trump de realizar deportaciones en masa. Fue un poderoso momento del movimiento en pro de la justicia que todos necesitamos.
Vivir en un medio ambiente saludable, en sentido literal y figurado, es su derecho. El respeto de los hispanos por la naturaleza y su dedicación a preservarla —pese a que las comunidades más vulnerables soportan desproporcionadamente la carga de la contaminación y el cambio climático— también constituyen un ejemplo que todos debemos admirar y seguir. Es por ello que en el Sierra Club seguiremos expresando nuestra gratitud, admiración y apoyo a la comunidad hispana en estos difíciles tiempos.

In the few weeks since Donald Trump has become president, tens of millions of Latinos and immigrants of all origins have lived in fear of harassment or deportation. These are communities that have been part of the American fabric even centuries before the US was founded as a country.
At the Sierra Club, the oldest and largest environmental organization in the country, not only do we believe Latinos and immigrants of all colors, national backgrounds and walks of life are an integral part of our country, but we fight every day to preserve this land for you, your family, and future generations.
On January 14, we made it clear when well over 100 Sierra Clubbers stood shoulder-to-shoulder with immigrants, workers, women, Muslims, and more in rallies to resist Trump's xenophobic plans for mass deportation. It was an empowering glimpse of the united movement for justice we all need.
Living in a healthy environment, literally and figuratively, is your right. Your respect for nature and dedication to preserve it, even as your most vulnerable communities are disproportionately bearing the brunt of pollution and climate change, sets a national example for all to admire and follow. That’s why, at the Sierra Club, we will continue to express our gratitude, admiration, and support to Latino communities in these very testing times.
