  • 1976: Inspiring Connections Outdoors founded 1991: Sierra Student Coalition founded 1993: Environmental Justice Program established
  • 2002: First Sierra Club Dismantling Racism Training
  • 2005: Military Family Outdoors program launched
  • 2005: Dismantling Racism Training launched
  • 2006: Diversity Council established
  • 2007: Diversity Statement adopted by Sierra Club Board of Directors
  • 2008: Diversity Plan adopted by Sierra Club Board of Directors
  • 2009: Diversity Council charge completed & Council sunsetted
  • 2010: Diversity priorities established, Diversity Working Group created
  • 2011: Pilot Diversity & Inclusion Training launched, Staff Diversity Team established
  • 2012: Diversity Effectiveness Representative hired, Jessica Ronald-Howard
  • 2013: Staff Department DEI Plans created, Sierra Club Board of Directors adopted revised Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Statement, expanded Diversity & Inclusion Support Team, launched Calling for Inclusion dialogues, launched Training for Trainers
  • 2014: Staff Department and individual DEI plans created, Sierra Club Board of Directors adopted Jemez Principles, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Assessment launched
  • 2015: Sierra Club Board of Directors adopted first Multi-Year DEI plan
  • 2016: Sierra Club hired first-ever Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Nellis Kennedy-Howard
  • 2017: Hosted a two-day anti-oppression training for all staff and 150 volunteers, Growing For Change; Staff Retention Analysis
  • 2018: Equity analysis and assessment for cultural and behavioral changes
  • 2019: Adoption of the 2019 Multi-Year Equity Plan and Workplan Guidance
