West Virginia Beyond Coal

The goal of our campaign is to have the Obama Administration to reverse the "fill rule" so as to make MTR more difficult. Ultimately, we need passage of the Clean Water Protection Act and the Appalachian Restoration Act to stop this destructive mining practice. We are building a base across the nation to influence the Administration to stop MTR.

We work closely with local grassroots groups across the region to suppor the empowerment of local residents in thier efforts to have safe and healthy communities.

See the video of the "hearing" in Charleston WV

This shows the attempted intimidation by the coal industry  of coalfield residents trying to gain entrance to a hearing on Nationwide Permit 21 process. Many residents had to be escorted out of the area. Inside, residents were heckled and threatened and Colonel Peterson, the Army Corp hearing officer, refused to order the eviction of industry thugs who were making the threats.
