Moving Wisconsin Beyond Coal
Our state government owns 15 coal plants across Wisconsin - including eight UW campuses and three health facilities. Governor Doyle agreed to clean up two in Madison; now it is time to clean up the rest.
Our universities should teach people. They should not undermine their ability to learn.
Our health facilities should cure people. They should not cause harm.
Campuses and communities across the state are joining together to kick our state government's dirty coal habit! Click here to see the latest news.
Mountaintop Removal - WI taxes at work...
The State of Wisconsin contracts with two mountaintop removal companies, Massey Coal and Alpha Coal, to buy the coal that is burned in our state facilities.
It is time to quit funding the destruction of entire ecosystems and communities. With home-grown resources like biomass, we can support our own rural economies in productive, not destructive ways. Contact Governor Doyle and ask him to get Wisconsin out of the business of mountaintop removal mining and out of the coal business entirely.
We don't have to blow the tops off of mountains to heat our universities and health facilities. Clean energy solutions abound! We can make our buildings more efficient so we don't need as much fuel to heat them. We can use the sun's energy to heat our buildings. Biomass can be grown right here at home in sustainable ways.
By using our tuition and tax dollars for local clean energy solutions instead of buying coal, we can invigorate Wisconsin's economy while creating green, family-supporting jobs right here at home.
Tuesday, September 29th, students and community members at UW Campuses joined folks across the country in a National Day of Action, telling our decision-makers that Coal is Dirty Business. Together, we can bring Wisconsin a clean energy future. Find out how you can help!
