Move Georgia Beyond Coal

From the mine to the plant, coal is our dirtiest energy source. It causes asthma and other health problems, destroys our mountains, and releases toxic mercury into our communities. Continuing our dependence on coal chains us to dirty energy and prevents us from making the changes we need to bring about a clean, secure energy future.

Home to the Appalachian Mountains, the state of Georgia is also home to the largest and dirtiest coal-fired power plant in the entire United States. Plant Sherer, owned and operated by Georgia Power and located in Juliette, pollutes over 27 million tons of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere each year.

The proposal to build two new coal-fired power plants, Longleaf and Washington, is unnecessary and fiscally irresponsible.

Join the Beyond Coal GA team to clean up the dirty South and to help build a clean, green economy in your backyard!

Since this video's creation, 4 of the 10 initial investors have dropped out of building this coal plant. This leaves: Cobb, Pataula, Snapping Shoals, Washington, Upson, and Central Georgia EMC currently invested in building Plant Washington.
