Together, we can protect our forests 

StopClearcuttingCA is a grassroots campaign founded on a commitment to educate the public about clearcutting. This widely used timber harvesting technique replaces forests with industrial monoculture tree farms. It degrades forest floor soil and watersheds, decreases biodiversity, threatens wildlife, increases wildfire danger, accelerates climate change, and promotes environmental injustice. It harms us all.  

Clearcutting is just one of many threats that forests face today

The StopClearcutting CA team is now committed not only to banning clearcutting but also to preserving our remaining old-growth and mature trees. Additionally, we are working to halt the global expansion of the wood-pellet and woody-biomass energy industries, exposing various tactics used in forest greenwashing, and fighting to ban the use of herbicides and pesticides in forests, as these chemicals harm the environment and wildlife and pose risks to human health.

In addition, aggressive and harmful forest thinning has emerged as the primary strategy to mitigate wildfire damage, despite being based on outdated notions and misguided policies that are unsupported by credible science.  On StopClearcutting, we instead advocate for proven wildfire-resilience strategies, such as home and community hardening to protect people and property from the ravages of large, uncontrollable wildfires that spill into communities.
