Job Title: Sierra Student Coalition Director

Department: Conservation/Washington, D.C.

Reports To: National Field Organizing Director/WDC

Context: The SSC Director works with SSC student volunteers to organize support for grassroots campaigns, events and skills training and to generate turnout for campaign visibility events. The main organizing focus will be on generating support for student-run conservation campaigns and training programs.

Scope: The SSC Director plans, organizes and implements the education and mobilization efforts of the Sierra Student Coalition. Works in close consultation with the SSC Executive Committee, under the general supervision of the Director of OVAS. Regularly works outside of the office and without direct supervision to coordinate student-run conservation campaigns and trainings on high school and college campuses.

Knowledge & Skills:

-- Current basic knowledge of environmental issues.

-- 1-2 years student volunteer experience working in the environmental movement, political campaigns, or other, similar organizations to plan and implement grassroots campaigns.

-- Demonstrated good written and verbal communication skills.

-- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in action-oriented office.

-- Ability to work independently, cooperatively and effectively with public, staff and volunteers.

-- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time. Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required.

-- Proficient basic computer skills for word processing, spreadsheets, and internet.
