Sierra Club Praises Pick of Gillibrand for Senate
Washington, DC: The Sierra Club today praised New York Governor Paterson's appointment of Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand to the U.S. Senate.
"The Sierra Club is thrilled that Congresswoman Gillibrand will be moving to the Senate," said Carl Pope, Sierra Club Executive Director. "She has already proven to be an environmental champion in the House and we are confident that she will continue to work hard for clean energy and safer, healthier communities in the Senate."
"Sierra Club members in her district have been excited to be working with Congresswoman Gillibrand since before she was in office," said Susan Lawrence, Chair of the Atlantic Chapter of Sierra Club (New York State). "We can say for sure that she is strongly committed to clean energy and green jobs--the kinds of solutions that will not only improve the environment, but are also necessary for a successful economic recovery. We look forward to working with her in her new seat so that together we can repower, refuel and rebuild New York and the entire Country. "
