SIERRA CLUB RELEASES
2012 YEAR-END VIDEO
AND LAUNCHES “GET
GOING GREEN IN 2013” WEB SITE
Video Features Nico Vega’s Newest Track
SAN FRANCISCO – Today the Sierra Club released its annual year-end
video, a look back at the successes, accomplishments and victories of the last
365 days. Together with our members,
supporters and volunteers, the Sierra Club moved our country closer to a clean
energy future with retirement announcements for 100 coal-fired power plants,
new U.S. car standards and slashed CO2 pollution; secured 3 new national
monument designations and protected more than 1 million acres of land around
the Grand Canyon; organized more than 200,000 outings with youth, families and
veterans, including trips with actor Nolan Gould and model Brooklyn Decker; and
elected green champions to lead our country in the New Year.
This year’s video is backed by the first release off of
Nico Vega’s sophomore album, “We Are the Art.”
Recently named a 2013 Rising Star by Amazon, this LA-based band is known
for lyrics about standing up for who you are and inspiring action.
"As a citizen
and a mother, environmental preservation is one of my highest priorities,"
said Nico Vega vocalist Aja Volkman. "The Sierra Club has been at the
forefront of environmental protection for over 120 years, so working with them
was a no brainer. We are thrilled to collaborate with the Beyond Coal
campaign on our tour next year to amplify their efforts to move our country off
of dirty fossil fuels and into a brighter and more sustainable future."
The Sierra Club’s “Get Going Green” website is an online opportunity
for people to set green New Year’s resolutions and find new eco-friendly ideas. Pledge to complete five green actions in 2013
– anything from bringing a reusable bag to the grocery store to installing
rooftop solar panels to taking action against dirty energy companies. Or, write-in your own green goals.
Thanks to our members and supporters for a victorious year. To view the 2012 video and set your 2013
green resolutions, visit http://sc.org/GetGoingGreen.
