Sierra Club and League of Conservation Voters Launch Ad Campaign in Support of Angus King
Highlights King’s Strong Clean Energy Record and Summers’ Support of Big Oil Subsidies
Washington, D.C. – Today, Sierra Club Independent Action and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) launched a new six-figure television ad campaign in Maine drawing the clear contrast between Independent Senate Candidate Angus King’s strong record on clean energy, clean air, and clean water and Republican Charlie Summers’ support of tax giveaways for Big Oil companies.
“Whether it was his fight as Governor to protect clean air or his investments as an entrepreneur in Maine’s clean energy economy, Angus King is committed to creating new jobs and keeping Maine’s families safe from toxic pollution,” said Cathy Duvall, Sierra Club Director of Public Advocacy and Partnerships. “By contrast, Charlie Summers has already announced his support of the Paul Ryan budget plan to gut clean energy and give away billions in tax breaks to Big Oil. The choice for voters who care about healthy families and a healthy planet couldn’t be clearer.”
“Charlie Summers’ refusal to accept scientific consensus on climate change is out of step with Maine, but Angus King has built his career on making investments in clean energy that grow our economy, create jobs and protect the environment,” said Navin Nayak, LCV Senior Vice President for Campaigns.
Summers has stated his support for Paul Ryan’s budget proposal, which would maintain billions in tax breaks for the nation’s largest oil companies, slash funding used to enforce the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, threaten dozens of national parks, and decimate funding for clean energy research. He recently told the Bangor Daily News that he does not believe humans contribute to climate change.
The ad will air almost 500 times in the Portland market from October 18 to October 24. The average viewer will see it 12 times over that time period.
