New TV Ad Highlights Rep. Darrell Issa’s War on Clean Energy Jobs
San Diego, CA – This week, the Sierra Club launched a television ad highlighting Rep. Darrell Issa’s efforts to block clean energy jobs. The cable television ad buy is nearly 200 points and will run in the Northern San Diego media market through next week.
“At a time when working families are struggling to make ends meet, Rep. Issa is blocking clean energy jobs and investments for his constituents,” said Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club. “He has repeatedly blocked proven job creators in the clean energy sector, in order to keep Americans dependent on dirty fossil fuels – this catering to corporate polluter lobbyists is inexcusable.”
The TV ad highlights that despite the thousands of clean energy jobs available in California, Rep. Issa has repeatedly blocked proven job creators in some of the fastest growing industries in the nation. [e.g. HR 1, House Vote 147, 2/19/2011; HR 2608, House Vote 727, 9/23/2011; HR 2354, House Vote 600, 7/15/2011]
In California alone, the clean energy sector supports more than 300,000 jobs.
“Clean energy is already providing Americans with affordable and reliable energy – without polluting the environment or threatening our health,” said Brune. “A clean energy future beyond dirty coal and oil is within our reach – and it’s time for our leaders to stop living in the past and invest in clean, safe and renewable energy to jumpstart our economy.”
