Exxon Pipeline Rupture: Latest Reminder that We Must Move Beyond Oil
Laurel, MT -- An ExxonMobil pipeline under the Yellowstone River in Montana ruptured today, spewing hundreds of barrels of oil into the waterway and onto the riverbank, and forcing residents downstream to evacuate.
In response, Michael Brune, Executive Director of the Sierra Club issued the following statement:
“The business of oil is dirty, dangerous and puts families and communities like those in Billings and Laurel, Montana in harm’s way. Corporate polluters like Exxon and BP must be held fully accountable for their pollution and destruction.
“Unfortunately, today’s Exxon oil pipeline burst is just another incident in a long string of disasters wrought by Big Oil - reminding us again why we need to move beyond oil and end Big Oil’s stranglehold on our nation once and for all.”
