The Sierra Club Announces Top 10 Finalists for
"The Best Internship on Earth"
Top candidates for competitive "Youth Outdoors Ambassador" picked from over 800 video entries
San Francisco -- The Sierra Club has announced the ten finalists for its wildly popular "Best Internship on Earth" challenge. More than 800 students and recent graduates from all parts of the country created video applications in hopes of hiking, rafting, and climbing mountains nationwide as the Sierra Club's Outdoor Youth Ambassador. The finalists'videos can be viewed at www.sierraclub.org/bestinternship
The student who is selected for The Best Internship on Earth will spend the summer traveling the country and creating energetic video reports on the Sierra Club’s Inner City Outings, Building Bridges to the Outdoors, and Volunteer Vacations programs. The intern will hike, raft, climb and cavort with other participants in these programs, recording the experience in video blogs and promoting the importance of giving all young people opportunities to experience the outdoors. The internship comes with a stipend, all-expenses paid travel, and $2,000 worth of gear from The North Face and Planet Explore.
"When we launched the Best Internship on Earth, we had no idea we would be met with such an overwhelming response. We've been thrilled with the creativity, energy, and enthusiasm that went into over 800 videos," said Sierra Club President Allison Chin. "These videos are infectious and inspiring – it's hard to stop watching when you see how passionate young people are about exploring, enjoying, and protecting the planet."
An NYU student rapping on a rooftop, an Inner City Outings leader from Hartford Community College, a Virgina Tech student who wants to combine her love of the outdoors with her love for YouTube, and a Boise State bicycling aficionado who raises goats are among the ten finalists.
