Obama Calls for Investment in Clean Energy Jobs
Washington, D.C. - In a speech today at the Brookings Institution, President Obama announced a new commitment to creating jobs through investment in clean energy. His plan calls for doubling of wind and solar energy capacity, as well as incentives to promote energy efficiency and clean energy manufacturing.
Statement of Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope
The Sierra Club applauds President Obama's commitment to more clean energy investment in order to create jobs. Millions of jobs are possible with the right investment in wind and solar power, and making our homes more energy efficient.
Already many organizations and unions are training Americans and putting them to work retrofitting homes and buildings to make them more energy efficient. The Sierra Club is partnering with several unions to get out the word on training programs that have already retrofitted many homes across the U.S. - putting people to work, lowering energy bills for families, and fighting global warming.
Our nation is poised to be a leader in clean energy industries, be it in manufacturing wind turbines, installing solar panels, or making our homes and buildings more energy efficient. By investing in clean, American energy now, the Obama administration can create good jobs, stimulate the economy, and combat global warming. Today's announcement is cause for celebration.
